Workman and four other soldiers were killed June 28 when an improvised explosive device was detonated while they were on patrol in Baghdad. Workman was a 2005 graduate of Ashland-Greenwood High School who joined the Army two months after graduating. During his funeral service, military officials presented the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and other military honors to Workman’s mother, Valerie, brother Korey and sister Krysta.
