Cpl Craig W. Herman
28 – Omaha, NE
SUICIDE – March 27, 2018
Craig W. Herman was your quintessential corn-fed Nebraska boy with a personality as big as himself. During his senior year before graduation, Craig accepted a scholarship to play football at the university of Sioux Falls, SD. He soon realized after a few years playing college ball that he had another calling in life that he simply couldn’t stray away from any longer, and that was the military. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2012 at the age of 23 and decided his calling was to the infantry community. While attending the School of Infantry West, Craig decided he wanted to be a machine gunner which was fitting because of his size and determination. Shortly after that he arrived at 3d Battalion, 1st Marine division and was assigned to Weapons Company, Combined Anti-Armor Team 1. He was the embodiment of a Marine and a machine gunner, and woke up everyday ready to train and fight his nation’s enemies. After serving two deployments, a UDP to Japan, and a MEU, Craig was honorably discharged in 2016. Craig succumbed to his demons on March 27th, 2018 and unfortunately passed away by way of suicide. ‘Til Valhalla brother, Semper Fi.
