SSG Patrick D. Hamburger
30 – Lincoln, NE
KIA – August 6, 2011
Sgt. Patrick Hamburger, a member of the Nebraska Army National Guard, was one of 30 Americans killed when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter reportedly was brought down by enemy fire. The Associated Press reported that 30 Americans, including 22 Navy SEALs, were killed along with seven Afghan soldiers and an interpreter. A search dog also died. Hamburger, who was assigned to the 2-135th General Support Aviation Battalion, had been in Afghanistan for about a week, his stepfather, DeLayne Peck said. He joined the National Guard when he was 18 and moved with his unit from Lincoln to Grand Island. “He didn’t have to go, and he wanted to go because his group was getting deployed. He wanted to be there for them. That’s him for you,” Chris Hamburger said.
